Support local without spending a dollar . . .

Will South Auckland Communities celebrate New Zealand’s renewed social freedom by supporting their local town centres?

We think yes!

The 'support local' theme post Covid-19 has gone from strength to strength nationwide, and here in South Auckland that is no exception. Originally 'shop local' was designed to celebrate our small businesses, but the 'support local' term encompasses so much more.

We're providing an opportunity for community heroes to support local with out giving a dollar. A little time and energy is all you need, and the reward are BIG!

On Saturday 18 July 2020, based in Naomi and Bill Kirk Park, from 9am to 12pm; we're teaming up with the Mangere Bridge Village Business Association, City Care, Civic, Auckland Council, Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board, local community groups, businesses and residents to beautify Mangere Bridge Village.

It's a perfect opportunity for those who live, work, play and cherish Mangere Bridge to show their support for local business by making the environment surrounding their shops a desirable place to be.

our staff and troop of volunteers will clean, sweep, paint, weed, wash windows and pick up litter, to enhance the local urban environment.

As a big thank you for the work on the day and a as vehicle for connection, MBCT and the Business Association will provide a good old Kiwi barbeque celebration, free to all who pitch in.

Not only does these clean-up initiatives continue to improve the appearance of South Auckland’s town centres and provide key opportunities for Local Boards and businesses to connect with local people; but they have a strong impact within the local community, instilling and fostering local pride.

To acknowledge local community groups’ current active within the area, Tararata Stream Team is supporting the Mangere Bridge Town Centre Clean-up. This team, comprised of local residents and passionate individuals, works diligently to already restore the nearby Tararata Stream.

Mangere Bridge residents are encouraged to volunteer for this event and be part of the first clean-up after Lockdown, but also continue giving back through lock groups like the Tararata Stream Team.

He waka eke noa — we are all in this together.

Wondering what measures we've put in place since Covid-19?

We register everyone at our Town Centre Clean-up events and take down contact details for tracing. Hand sanitiser, gloves and masks are encouraged and hand for free use.
