Manurewa welcomes new Community Recycling Centre

After years of planning and preparation, we officially opened the Manurewa Community Recycling Centre & Reuse Store on Wednesday 9th November 2022.

This exciting new community facility, run by the Beautification Trust in partnership with Auckland Council, will be a Zero Waste hub for South & East Auckland communities. It joins a growing network of Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) across Tāmaki Makaurau working together towards zero waste by 2040.

General Manager of Auckland Council Waste Solutions, Parul Sood, says, “Now Manurewa residents can help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill – and pick up a bargain at the same time. And with Christmas not far away it is the perfect opportunity to have a clean out at home and find some great gifts at the CRC as well.

“The Beautification Trust does an amazing job, so not only will the CRC prevent waste going to landfill and help achieve the council’s Zero Waste by 2040 goal, it will also educate people about helping to look after the environment as well creating jobs for the local community. There are multi benefits all round,” Parul adds.

The Manurewa Community Recycling Centre will be a place of community connection, a destination for learning and most importantly where practical actions can be taken to reduce waste to landfill by reusing, repurposing and recycling as much as possible.

Beautification Trust CEO, Daniel Barthow, says, “We’re delighted to expand our existing partnerships with Auckland Council into the Zero Waste space. Our new CRC will provide practical solutions for our community to reduce waste going to landfill, as well as opportunities to learn about the Zero Waste kaupapa.

“We look forward to the Manurewa CRC being a destination for community connection, learning and engaging in practical actions towards Zero Waste.”

The Manurewa CRC accepts a wide range of items including books, magazines, furniture, bikes, household appliances, computers, and monitors.

It is a little different to others around Tāmaki Makaurau and does not accept refuse, green waste, hazardous waste, dangerous goods, commercial or industrial waste.

The Manurewa Community Recycling Centre is open to the public, Thursday - Sunday, 8:30am - 4pm, at 38 Holmes Road, Manurewa. Come along to drop off unwanted household items and materials for reuse and recycling, peruse the Reuse Store, and learn about the Zero Waste kaupapa. Find out more on our website.
