On Friday 4th June, to celebrate World Environment Day, a group from the New Zealand Defence Force based at Papakura Military Camp got together to clean up their local awa (waterway).
They made a big difference, pulling out multiple sacks worth of rubbish and larger items from the stream. Thanks to their hard work, that's a whole lot of junk that won't end up in the ocean.
Ka pai to mahi! Well done on an incredible effort and thanks to Julie for sending through these great photos.
We can all do our bit to look after our local environment. If you want to organise a clean up in your area, you can borrow the tools you need free of charge from our Community Tool Library, apply for funding from our Tiaki Fund and get in touch for support and advice.
