The Beautification Trust’s Eye on Nature Creative Arts Competition gave South Auckland students at kindergarten and primary school level the chance to show off their artistic flair while making use of sustainable materials.
The theme for 2021 was Mai nga maunga ki te moana, ko te wai te oranga / From the mountains to the sea, water is life.
There were 20 entries which were put on display in the professional exhibition space at the Auckland Botanic Gardens for a week during the April school holidays.
The judging panel was made up of experts in the arts, environmental education and community engagement. They assessed the artworks based on their interpretation of the theme, use of sustainable materials, the artist’s statement about their work, originality, innovation, construction and effort.
The winning schools and kindergartens were awarded art supply vouchers by the Beautification Trust, with a total prize pool of $2,550.
Congratulations to the winners and well done to all the tamariki who took part for their fantastic effort!
