35 volunteers banded together near the Puhinui Stream in Wiri on Friday 10th April to clear the land of illegal dumping and pest plants for the Puhinui Giveback Day.
Our 9m3 skip bin was full to the brim with litter, and a separate 590kg of waste was also collected during the 3 hour session. The hardworking team gathered illegal dumping including furniture, large whiteware appliances, and scrap metal from the stream and surroundings.
The volunteers' dedication means that native plants have a healthier environment to grow, and the clean stream means that there is less chance of sickness or injury to native birds and fish.
Thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up, and Wiri Business Association for teaming up with us to do this amazing mahi!
