Talk to a Home Energy Advisor

If you want to lower your power bills and have a warmer, drier house, Auckland Council's certified advisors can provide up to an hour of free impartial advice to Auckland residents and ratepayers. Tell them what your issues or questions are and they will get back to you within three working days with an answer and to arrange a suitable time for your free virtual session.

This free service is provided by Auckland Council as part of their Live Lightly programme

What an advisor can offer

  • Improve the health, comfort and performance of your home

Advisors provide personalised, impartial advice on home energy and energy efficiency. They will work with you to find the right options for your home and budget.

What they don't offer

  • Building or insulation inspections for compliance purposes.

  • Advice relating to major repairs, or to structural, electrical or plumbing work.

  • Recommendations for particular suppliers or products. 

Advice for new builds 

Auckland Council's Sustainable Home Design Guide offers design tips on building a comfortable home that costs less to run and is less harmful to the environment.

Request advice on the performance of your home

Auckland Council's certified home performance and eco-design advisors will provide up to an hour of free expert advice on how you can make your existing house or new build warmer, drier and more energy-efficient.

They can provide this advice by:

  • visiting you at your house if necessary

  • virtual consultations via a video call (preferred)

Virtual consultations are preferred because they reduce health risks, travel time, and carbon emissions.

The team offers a limited number of in-home consultations if you do not have the technology for a video-call or if a physical inspection is required.
