🔍What is "hazardous waste"? 🔍

They are items or liquids that are flammable, toxic, corrosive, explosive or radioactive, which can be extremely harmful to people or pets if touched or swallowed. Hazardous waste can't be thrown away in the regular bin, recycling, or down a drain as it is harmful to the environment.

🤔Why drop off your hazardous waste?🤔

Correct disposal helps to protect our whaanau, tamariki, and taiao. Left unchecked, hazardous waste can leech into our soil and air and hurt the whenua, but we can responsibly recycle these chemicals through our partnerships with HazTech.

We want Manurewa to be safe and beautiful for generations to come. So help us to help everyone by dropping off the hazardous waste you have hanging around the house for FREE.

What kinds of hazardous waste are we collecting?

☣️Paint, varnishes, and solvents (including paint strippers, thinners, and cleaners)

☣️Pool cleaners and chlorine

☣️Household chemicals – cleaning products, bleaches, drain and oven cleaner

☣️Vermin baits and garden poisons

☣️Lithium batteries, old phones, and laptops

☣️Old fire extinguishers and smoke detectors

☣️Fluorescent tubes

☣️Used vehicle oil – engine and motor oils, anti-freeze, brake fluid

☣️Nangs or nos cannisters

We will NOT accept:

❌ Asbestos 

❌ Medical waste / syringes 

❌ Explosives / ammunition 

❌ Commercial / construction waste 

❌ Tyres (drop off up to 5 at the Manurewa Community Recycling Centre when they're open!)

⏱️ Pick a drop-off time for the Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event

🚗 Pull up to the Beautification Trust on your drop-off time and get rid of your waste!

➡️ Only for Manurewa Local Board residents

➡️ Limited to household volumes of hazardous waste. NO business hazardous waste drop offs 🚫

Choose a drop-off time when you register for Hazardous Waste Drop-Off!:

📍 Beautification Trust, 38 Holmes Road, Manurewa

📅 Choose a 30 minute window between 10am - 2:00pm on Sunday 19th April
