About the Event

Are you a local Auckland artist? Unleash your creative eco-warrior with the EcoFest 2024 Mural Competition!

For the duration of EcoFest, we are on the lookout for an amazing eco-themed artwork design to be chosen for a mural on a high-visibility electrical cabinet located in Wiri. This cabinet has been the target of graffiti vandalism and is in need of a colourful spruce up. The EcoFest 2024 Mural Competition is your chance to be chosen to transform this cabinet from drab infrastructure to a vibrant piece of art!

The winning artwork will be chosen by Wiri Business Association and the Beautification Trust. The successful artist will receive:

  • A chance to paint their design on this high-visibility Chorus cabinet
  • $1700 cash prize
  • A reimbursement of up to $150 for paint and painting materials for the mural

Theme and Artist Brief:

In line with the EcoFest kaupapa of sustainable living and caring for the environment, we are looking for artwork designs that include the following themes:

  • Environmental sustainability (whatever this looks like to you)
  • Protecting our natural world
  • The local Wiri community

Artist considerations:

  • The cabinet will need to be painted on the front, sides and back. Designs will need to cover all four areas.
  • The cabinet dimension is approximately 4m2 in total.
  • The final mural will need to be hand-painted with exterior grade paints. There is no scope for vinyl wrap or other application methods.
  • The artist will need to be prepare the cabinet for painting, including sanding and priming the surface. The Beautification Trust can provide guidance around this.

Competition rules:

  • One artwork submission per artist
  • Artist must be based in Auckland
  • Must be submitted during the competition period (15 March – 14 April 2024)
