Junk Play

A unique and creative play experience

Junk Play aims to teach children about the value of re-purposing waste and diverting materials from landfill. Utilising a wide range of 'large loose parts' otherwise destined for landfill, tamariki design and construct their own play spaces, limited only by their imaginations.

Junk Play was originally developed by Conscious Kids. The Beautification Trust is working in partnership with Conscious Kids to deliver this play-based learning experience in South Auckland.

Junk Play in schools

Together with Conscious Kids, we deliver Junk Play sessions to primary schools in South Auckland.

Junk Play teaches the importance of environmental sustainability, repurposing waste, diverting waste from landfill and respect for the natural environment using play-based learning. Play-based learning is encouraged in The New Zealand Curriculum to develop confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.
